Being a graphic designer in the School of Print Media at RIT, I studied the printing process very closely, which is something many designers never get to do. A beautiful design is great, but translating it to your audience is one of the most important parts. What’s the use of a beautiful design that the designer can see on his computer, but prints out for the consumer looking wholly different?
The print workflow, from file creation to RIP, is very fragile. If you don’t understand the machines you’re using to make the file, and the machines you’re using to print it out, you can’t plan a successful project outcome.
Print is the final part of your design that makes it, and I believe that my training as a printer as well as a designer helps make me a stronger part of your team. My knowledge of print lets me see ahead to possible logistical problems that could keep a project from staying on budget and on time. It also helps me plan for the quality you will be proud to put your name on!
